Feared, another feminicide occurred in Nunavik

A young 24-year-old mother, Katsuak Iyaituk, was allegedly killed by her partner on Monday in Nunavik, in Northern Quebec. Adamie Paningayat, a 24-year-old man, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. According to our information, he was in a marital relationship with the victim.

On Monday, Nunavik police went to a residence in Ivujivik, a northern village with around 400 inhabitants.

“The patrol officers were called to go there. At the scene, a woman was found seriously injured outside. His death was pronounced at the hospital,” confirmed Nancy Fournier, sergeant at the Sûreté du Québec.

Police also found the man seriously injured in the residence. “We fear for our lives,” said the sergeant.
