Some bakers fear having to deal with a shortage of butter. Some products could become scarce.

Should we fear a shortage of butter? In the bakery “La Petite Zoé” in Saint-Fort (Mayenne), we consider the situation to be unprecedented. “We still manage to provide ourselves, after there are kinds of butter like PDOs, butter labels that we have a little more trouble getting”, testifies Franck Ricard, who works here. Regarding large and medium-sized stores, they have no supply problem despite letters from industrialists indicating that there could be a “lack of raw materials in terms of butter”, says Sylvain Farcy, manager of a Carrefour City in Laval.

The Lactalis group, which markets President products, refers to a situation of tension. Some butters could become rare like the tourage one. Regarding local products such as “Bons Mayennais”, no problem to report, the Yule log should therefore be available as planned for New Year’s Eve.
