The shooter, shot dead by the Secret Service, is believed to be a 20-year-old man from Pennsylvania, Thomas Matthew Crooks, according to the FBI report. The motive for the attack is still unknown.
He was immediately “neutralized” by the Secret Service, communications chief Anthony Guglielmi said, according to NBC News.
Pennsylvania voter records list a Thomas Matthew Crooks whose birthdate and address, less than an hour’s drive from the crime scene, match those of a Republican voter, NBC News reported.
Investigators will prioritize searching for potential accomplices and a motive, authorities said at a news conference Saturday.
