A 57-year-old teacher was killed on Friday October 13, during a knife attack at the Gambetta-Carnot school campus in Arras in Pas-de-Calais. An attack that occurred almost three years after the assassination of professor Samuel Paty, in Yvelines. Three other school employees were also injured. The main suspect, originally from the Caucasus and aged 20, is a former student of the establishment. The national anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office has taken up the case.

The 57-year-old professor was the father of three daughters, details France Inter. His partner is also a teacher in the Pas-de-Calais department. He was an associate professor of modern literature and had taught French at the Gambetta-Carnot school campus since the 1980s.
“We loved him, he was really great”
He was considered a lover of literature. His favorite author was Julien Gracq in front of Céline and Marcel Proust specified one of his friends. He also loved the poetry of René Char. He shared this passion with his students. “We loved him, he was really great”, testifies a student at the microphone of France Inter. He was a very discreet person, very present for others and very courageous, his former colleagues confided. “I will miss him very much”confides Paule, one of his former colleagues and friend, very affected.

In the 2000s, this professor co-founded the popular university of Arras where he gave lectures on literature, cinema and music. He was curious about everything, he often traveled to France, he was a lover of heritage and monuments.
“The teacher who was killed intervened first and undoubtedly saved many lives himself”, greeted Emmanuel Macron, from the establishment where the attack took place. The Head of State insisted on “pay tribute to all our teachers” And “welcomed the responsiveness of all internal security services”.
