Father and son reportedly injured by police in Dollard-des-Ormeaux shooting

The father and son who were injured in the shooting that occurred Sunday evening in Dollard-des-Ormeaux were reportedly hit by police bullets, according to the charges against the instigator of the conflict, Nackeal Hickey.

On Sunday evening, a shooting involving Nackeal Hickey and patrol officers broke out in Montreal’s West Island. The suspect attempted to steal a vehicle from a family returning from a camping trip. After police arrived, a shootout broke out in which a 52-year-old man and his 18-year-old son were shot and injured, as was Nackeal Hickey. All three are in stable condition.

Mr. Hickey, 26, faces 15 charges, including four for attempted murder. According to the information filed Tuesday, the alleged victims of these attempted murders are all officers with the Montreal Police Service (SPVM). No officers were injured during the shooting.

The absence of charges of attempted murder against the father and son indicates that, according to the authorities, it was the shots fired by the patrol officers that injured the two innocent men.

Nackeal Hickey is also accused, among other things, of pointing a firearm at innocent people and of being in illegal possession of it. For this case, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI) is responsible for studying the work of the police officers and the Sûreté du Québec is focusing on the criminal aspects.

The shooting happened Sunday around 10:45 p.m. on a busy street corner in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, on the island of Montreal. The SPVM received a call from a person who reported that an argument broke out at their home and that they heard gunshots. Nackeal Hickey then left the house and allegedly pointed a firearm at a motorist, who then fled the scene.

The suspect then walked toward the vehicle where the father and son were, who were injured. A daughter in the family was also present, but she was not injured in the shooting. Police arrived on the scene shortly after and exchanged gunfire with the suspect, with the family in between.
