Fatboy Slim was present for the first time in Lyon, Friday May 10, on the Nuits Sonores stage. The English legend of electronic music notably marked the end of the 90s with numerous hits and an album, You’ve come a long way, baby. In Lyon, he performed with the energy and the desire to touch all generations.
Fatboy Slim, 60 years old and still as passionate about a genre that he helped launch, big beat. But, facetiously, that doesn’t stop him from opening his live performance at Nuits Sonores with a Queen hit. He came to Lyon for the first time this year: “I’m here because I know it’s the best place I can be”, he said. But 25 years ago, he shook up electronic music with an album touched by grace, You’ve come a long way, babyand its cohort of hits.
“I take different paths”
Today, Norman Cook aspires to something else: “I don’t want to be as huge as Madonna or Michael Jackson. With this album came the stress of success and fame. There was a time when that was what drove me: getting even bigger. And those years , I played in huge rooms, but after that, what do we do? I reached my ceiling today, instead of trying to get bigger, I’m taking different paths.he confides.
“I’m like a vampire, except that instead of blood, I absorb the sweat of all these young people dancing.”

This does not prevent him from taking advantage of a favorable moment. “It’s like a 90s comeback and it’s good because I’m still here, straight from that era where the rhythm and the groove haven’t really changed. It’s just evolved over the 40 years I’ve been doing that. We’re always looking for the kick, that acid sound that gets you off the ground and makes you feel free and sexy. It’s great to have seen that grow because it’s come a long way.” rejoices Fatboy Slim. In front of him on Friday evening, more than 6,000 people, all generations combined, were ready to sweat for a good part of the evening with a legend, a real one.
