A 43-year-old woman was found dead following an outbreak of fire in an apartment on Copernic Avenue in Laval-des-Rapides.

The police received a call from a relative of the lady, around 8:30 p.m. Saturday evening, who was concerned that she would not be able to reach her.
Upon arrival, officers observed a burning smell and traces of soot.
So there was a small fire, which would have gone out on its own.
The police still called the firefighters to ensure that there was no risk of recovery.
It was on entering the affected room that they discovered the woman’s body.
It is difficult to say if the fire caused her death, as her body showed no signs of burns, but she could have breathed smoke.
An investigation is underway and an autopsy will be performed.
