Fatal fall of a teenager in a ski center in Morin-Heights: “It is very difficult to explain what could have happened”

The teenager who died Friday after falling from the ski lift of a ski resort in the Laurentians may have suffered from illness, suggests the Sûreté du Québec.

This is at least one of the theories currently favored by the police force, which is continuing its investigation.

No criminal element has been found in this case.

Investigators spent a good part of the night at the Sommet Morin Heights ski center to clarify the sequence of events.

Emergency services were called around 10pm after a 15-year-old boy fell from a ski lift.

“Station staff and paramedics carried out resuscitation maneuvers on site. He was then transported to a hospital in the region, where he was pronounced dead,” said Camille Savoie, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.

The tragedy occurred while the fourth secondary student from Externat Sacré-Cœur, in Rosemère, was taking part in a school trip.

Safety bar

The exact causes behind this sad story remain a mystery for those responsible for the mountain, who say they are collaborating fully with the authorities.

You should know that ski lifts are equipped with a safety bar which serves to prevent such events.

“It is very difficult to explain what could have happened,” he says in an interview with The newspaperChristian Dufour, marketing director for Les Sommets.

“This is an extremely sad situation, and our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to the family,” he added.

The station obtained authorization from the Sûreté du Québec to reopen its facilities on Saturday morning.

Intervention

On the side of the Externat Sacré-Cœur, the management expressed all its sadness in a message intended for parents.

“The loss of this young person touches each of us deeply. All our thoughts are with the family, loved ones and the entire ESC community,” we read in a letter.

The college will set up an intervention team to support the student community and staff members.
