Fatal collision in Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles | Young man charged with second degree murder

A young motorist involved in a fatal collision in early December was charged with second-degree murder on Friday. This is the 39e homicide to occur on the territory of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).

Kevin Turpin, a 19-year-old man, appeared Friday at the Montreal courthouse. He is charged with causing the death of fellow motorist Allen Mapfumo and with dangerous driving causing death.

The victim had lost his life on December 3 in a collision that occurred on Henri-Bourassa Boulevard, near 6e avenue, in the borough of Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles, in Montreal.

The young man was immobilized at a red light in his car before being hit by another vehicle. His car caught fire.

The accused driver, a young man in his twenties, was injured during the impact and then transported to a hospital.

A fundraiser has been launched online to help the relatives of the victim.
