The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) has thus launched an investigation into the intervention of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) in this story.

Shortly after 10 p.m. Friday night, a call was made to 911 regarding an oncoming vehicle on Highway 55 South. Nearly 15 minutes later, while the police were in the lane planned for the traffic controllers, the speeding vehicle would have collided with another car.

While the driver at fault suffered injuries that would not be life-threatening, the citizen involved in the collision died.

“Four BEI investigators have been assigned to investigate the circumstances of the intervention. Given the circumstances of the event, the support services of a police force were required, namely the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM)”, indicated the BEI, specifying that the SPVM is responsible for the criminal investigation into the events leading to this death.
