Fatal accident: a car rushes into a convenience store in Montreal

An accident of incredible violence killed two people this morning in Montreal, when a vehicle traveling at breakneck speed on Sherbrooke Street left no chance for a pedestrian before ending up in a convenience store.

The events took place this morning shortly before 8:30 a.m. in the Tétreaultville sector, in the east of the island.

For a reason still unknown, the driver who wanted to go at high speed on Sherbrooke Street eastbound deviated from his trajectory and started rolling on the sidewalk, can we see in a video of the scene of a surveillance camera seen by the Journal.

Without ever slowing down, the vehicle hit a pedestrian with his back to it while walking on the sidewalk and ended his race a few meters further by crashing violently into a convenience store at a service station located at the intersection. from Mousseau Street.

“The guy was going 135 km / h, said Bruno Corsi, owner of the Corsi hair salon located opposite the stage. He grabbed three poles and the pedestrian flew over the gas pump, ”adds the man who saw the whole scene which took place in a few seconds while he was preparing to open his business.

No chance

The driver, a 52-year-old man, was pronounced dead by authorities. According to our information, the latter had just finished his night shift.

The pedestrian, who was in critical condition, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. He is a 39 year old man.

“I went to see. The guy was on the ground, he was full of blood. It was scary, testified Mr. Corsi, still in shock from what he had seen. He was doing nothing. He was just walking,” he added.


Fortunately, no one who was in the convenience store was injured even though the building suffered significant damage.

Firefighters were also called to assess the condition of the building’s structure yesterday to ensure its safety.

Amazement in the neighborhood

Yesterday, dozens of passers-by and residents of the neighborhood gathered near the security perimeter to observe the damage caused by the accident.

Several of them struggled to understand what could have caused this extremely violent collision.
