ba&sh celebrates its 20th anniversary

The French high-end women’s clothing brand ba&sh celebrates its 20th anniversary. And it’s a story of friendship that hides behind its creation.

Barbara Boccara and Sharon Krief, the two co-founders, met when they were 17 years old. Once they finished their studies and after having children, the two friends wanted to be together and create something that resembles them. Passionate about fashion, they launched ba&sh in 2003 (these are the first two syllables of their first names). The style is chic, bohemian, rock and casual. The dresses are fluid, there are pretty floral prints, very well cut jackets and pants, as well as elegant coats.

“It’s a modern and feminine brand. For all ages, from the young woman to the grandmother. We have the chance to dress all generations, in style and morphology,” explains Barbara Boccara in an interview.

The desire to offer the ideal wardrobe was their starting point. Barbara and Sharon want to create clothes they love and want to wear, which is still their motivation today. “What do you like to wear to work? To go out at night ? To go on vacation? We are active women with children, a social life, a family life. We are very pragmatic, and when we start a collection, we think of clothes that are worn in everyday life, comfortable clothes made with beautiful materials. Our inspiration comes from our life, from the street, from the women around us,” explains Barbara Boccara.

Over the years, the brand grew, and thanks to its partner LVMH, ba&sh expanded internationally with the opening of boutiques in the United States, Canada (a boutique in Montreal in Westmount) and Asia. A few stars like Sarah Jessica Parker wear the brand, as do characters from the hit show Emily in Paris.

Their secret to lasting? “We question ourselves, we listen, curious about everything, always on the move. We work as a team, there are two of us, but there are also the women around us and the entire creative team. We advocate femininity, we dress women so that they feel good about themselves, that they have self-confidence, and we hope to continue for a long time,” concludes Sharon Krief.

Montreal designer Eve Gravel is collaborating with artists Estée Prada and Mamé for the next season. The prints from the spring-summer collection were designed with illustrator Estée Prada and the result is joyful and full of imagination. The prints are flowery with the presence sometimes of pretty creatures, some in color, others in black and white. They can be found on dresses, skirts, tops, shirts and jumpsuits from the summer collection. In addition to this collaboration, Eve Gravel is offering another one with Mamé. The Montreal company, made up of Magalie Billardon and Mélanie Loubert, locally manufactures crocheted clothing. There are three handmade tops available for pre-order on the website.
