Fashion and cinema: a common history

Marilyn Monroe dancing with a majestic white dress, does that mean anything to you? In the movie Some like it hot, the Hollywood actress plays a sexy singer, Sugar Cane. Her dress has remained a symbol for the history of cinema.

Imagine that we can find and admire this dress at the exhibition Cinemode which takes place until January 16, 2022 at the Paris Cinematheque. Better yet, the event was imagined by the renowned couturier Jean paul Gaultier.

Exhibition curator, Florence Tissot takes us behind the scenes of this event where are presented rare collections related to cinema. It traces the history of cinema and fashion, which have often gone hand in hand.

Catherine Deneuve, Bruce Willis, Pedro Almodóvar: exceptional collections

If the american cinema is in the spotlight, it is also an opportunity to discover very French costumes: the trench coat from the movie Belle of the Day by Luis Buñuel where Catherine Deneuve plays the role of a wealthy woman discovering prostitution.

Jean paul Gaultier also presents sublime and quirky collections, which he made in particular during his collaborations with the Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar.

A costume of Superman, pants designed for Bruce willis, or even a very mysterious “sexual dress”: discover all these nuggets in Minute Papillon!
