Two women died in a violent head-to-head collision late Saturday night in Farnham, Estrie. Three other people were seriously injured, including two small children, but there is no fear for their lives.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) reports having been called to intervene on Route 104, between Saint-Romuald and Principale Est streets, around 11:45 p.m. Saturday.
For a reason that is “still unknown”, a 33-year-old female driver was traveling eastbound on the 104 when she allegedly “swerved out of her lane and collided with another oncoming vehicle. reverse,” summarizes a spokesperson for the SQ, agent Stéphane Tremblay.
Given the force of the impact, this driver, originally from the Farnham region, unfortunately died. Two young children were also in the back of the vehicle and were seriously injured. They were transported to a hospital center, where there would be no fear for their lives at the present time.
In the other vehicle, the one that was hit while traveling in the right direction, the passenger, a 66-year-old woman from Boisbriand, lost her life.
The driver in her twenties of this second vehicle suffered serious injuries, but her condition was stable at the start of the day on Sunday.
According to information that was first transmitted by the SQ, the violent collision occurred in an area where the maximum authorized speed is 90 km / h. However, it is still unclear at what speed the two vehicles were traveling at the time of the incident.
One thing is certain: a vast investigation has been opened in order to shed light on this event. Agents-reenactmentists were notably sent to the scene during the night, forcing the closure of a section of Route 104. Traffic was therefore diverted for several hours to let the investigators work. It seems a priori that no one witnessed the collision.
