Head this Thursday, June 13 to Saint-Jean-de-Védas, near Montpellier, in Hérault. Who are the farmers and market gardeners voting for?

Since the announcement of the dissolution of the National Assembly, Guillaume de Boisgelin has been worried. This market gardener, based near Montpellier (Hérault), fears the uncertainty of the coming weeks. “With the crisis, there were quite a few things that had been worked on with the government, laws that were in the Assembly. With the new elections, are we going to have to wait months and months before we get something?” he asks himself.

He participated in blocking highways at the beginning of the year, like many farmers. Does the crisis influence their vote? “Like all professions, it’s becoming difficult everywhere. People can’t do it anymore. Things have to change.” believes Stéphane Alonso, fishmonger. An opinion shared by residents. “We don’t take enough care of French farmers. (…) It played a role, that’s for sure”, thinks Mireille Sartre. After an unprecedented crisis, the agricultural question will be one of the issues in the next elections.
