In the Arcachon basin, the oyster shacks have reopened, three weeks after the poisoning which caused their closure. In Haute-Garonne, farmers are demonstrating, while the Côte d’Azur has simulated an alert to be prepared for the risk of a tsunami.
It has been three weeks since the oyster shacks in the Arcachon basin were closed, after repeated poisonings after the holidays. Friday January 19 in the morning, the first customers returned. One of them mentions “an act of solidarity”, after this long closure. An investigation is still underway after several complaints from contaminated consumers.
Angry, farmers promise an unlimited blockade in Carbonne, in Haute-Garonne. Since Tuesday, they have been blocking part of the A64 motorway with their hay bales. “They don’t listen to us, the only thing they tell us is to wait. We can’t wait any longer. (…) We were promised aid in November. We still haven’t got it not”deplores a cattle breeder.
Simulation of a tsunami alert in the South-East
Friday morning, in Antibes (Alpes-Maritimes), a tsunami alert simulation was carried out. It was organized in nine coastal departments, where the threat does exist. The last tsunami on the Côte d’Azur dates back to 1979. Eleven people were killed.
