French and Spanish farmers joined forces on Monday June 3 to block the border and make themselves heard in the run-up to the European elections.

On both sides of the border on the A9 motorway, French and Spanish farmers are making the same demand. Gas prices, imports of Moroccan tomatoes… farmers from the two leading producing countries in Europe want to influence the European elections, which will take place on Sunday June 9.
“After thirty years of fighting, today, farmers continue to die”, deplores Sébastien Barboteu, breeder in the Pyrénées-Orientales. The farmer denounces the massive arrival of “goods from other continents, outside the EU, which do not respect European standards”. Some promise to continue the movement this summer if no proposal is made to them immediately. In Haute-Garonne, Jérôme Bayle, who led the farmers’ revolt last January, is back on the dams. In total, seven crossing points along the French-Spanish border are blocked.
