A national tribute was paid to Jacques Delors on Friday January 5. The action of the former president of the European Commission was welcomed.

The hymn to joy, the symbol of Europe, was sung in the courtyard of the Invalides, Friday January 5, during the national tribute paid to Jacques Delors. Around ten heads of state and representatives of the European Union were present. This socialist reformer left his mark in Brussels. “In 1985, the presidency of the European Commission was vacant, it was the candidacy of Jacques Delors which is retained (…) The son of a Corrèze soldier will hold in his hands the project of a continent and reconcile Europe with its future”recalled Emmanuel Macron.

A memory hailed by socialists

The memory of Jacques Delors, who refused to run for the Élysée in 1995, was praised by representatives of her camp, from Lionel Jospin to François Hollande. Presented by Emmanuel Macron as a conciliator at every moment, Jacques Delors bowed out as the next European elections loom.
