Towards a government without Geert Wilders at the helm. Nearly four months after his large electoral victory, thehe leader of the far right in the Netherlands announces that he is ready to give up the post of Prime Minister in order to facilitate negotiations on the formation of a right-wing government. “I can only become Prime Minister if ALL parties in the coalition support me. This was not the case,” he wrote on the social networkWednesday March 13.
Geert Wilders is therefore giving up (for the moment) his attempt to lead the fifth economy of the European Union, due to lack of support from the political parties with which he is trying to form a coalition. An unfair and undemocratic outcome, he commented again on Thursday to the Dutch media. But to be Prime Ministere, “you need support from all parties”, he repeated. And he didn’t have it.
“Don’t forget: I will one day become Prime Minister of the Netherlands”
The famous politician had regularly expressed his wish to lead the government, but his “love for [son] country and [ses] voters is big and more important than [sa] own position”, he explained. He stressed wanting “a right-wing government. Less asylum and immigration. The Dutch first.”
The exact shape of the next Dutch government remains to be determined, but Geert Wilders is expected to propose a prime minister to replace Mark Rutte.
Polls show that support for Geert Wilders and his PVV party has only grown since his election victory. “Remember: I will one day become Prime Minister of the Netherlands. With the support of even more Dutch peoplehe insisted. If not tomorrow, then the day after tomorrow. Because the voices of millions of Dutch people will be heard!”
