In Afghanistan, 23 million people face food insecurity. Among the first victims, children.

18 million people need food aid in Afghanistan, according to NGOs, including 10 million children. Without urgent action, one million boys and girls under the age of five will suffer from severe malnutrition by the end of 2021. The World Food Plan (WFP) estimates it will need $ 220 million per month to finance humanitarian aid in Afghanistan and therefore calls on the international community for help.

Food prices have skyrocketed, prompting some families to sell their daughters. In the north of the country, Naziya, 14, was sold for $ 1,000 and Asho, 8, was bought by her future husband for $ 3,000. “I sold my daughter because we are hungry and in debt. I did it because I had no choice.”, explained his mother Gul Bibi. According to NGOs, this crisis has forced 550,000 Afghans to take the road to exile.
