Family doctors: favor dialogue

Some 800,000 Quebecers are currently waiting for a family doctor. In the eyes of Prime Minister François Legault, this situation results in part from the fact that some general practitioners do not take care of a sufficient number of patients. Visibly upset by this situation, Mr. Legault juggles with the idea of legislating to have the power to give the names of the doctors whose list he has obtained from the RAMQ to the CEOs of the CISSS
and CIUSSS.

In my opinion, the Prime Minister, by ignoring the Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens du Québec (FMOQ), is venturing down a dangerous path. It is neither more nor less than a declaration of war with the FMOQ which should, in a sound management mechanism, act as the perfect interlocutor in this conflict.

However, François Legault should have learned a lesson in the conflict with nurses regarding the obligation to be vaccinated by November 15, However, rumors are circulating that accommodations could be proposed by the Minister of Health. Do we not run the risk of experiencing a similar situation with general practitioners registered on François Legault’s “black list”? All in all, wouldn’t it be preferable to favor dialogue with the FMOQ rather than oppression towards certain general practitioners? In my opinion, François Legault is delusional if he intends to “subdue” the family physicians concerned. In labor relations, the threat is not a good advisor. Only a healthy dialogue can pave the way for an understanding between the parties.

So, Mr. Legault, put your weapons away, they will only aggravate an already tense situation, and show openness by sitting down at the table with the representatives of the FMOQ.
