Five months after the collapse of the buildings on rue de Tivoli in Marseille, the affected families are still waiting for repairs. Some residents discovered that there had been thefts in their absence. They want to file a complaint against the town hall for lack of supervision.

Five months after the tragedy, security is reinforced at the door of Romain Michel’s building. A padlock, still a rudimentary method for an uninhabitable building, but the only way to prevent theft from happening again. “JI noticed that a drill and a sander were missing, and the holiday check book had been completely emptied. These are not things of great value but it gave us a shock, he testifies. A neighbor also suffered theft, in addition to finding her toilet dirty and furniture broken. I don’t understand how we can do this to disaster victims. Financially it’s super complicated, we’re going to have to buy everything againshe laments.

An unattended storage site

A complaint against the town hall will be filed. Rubble needed for reconstruction was stored in vacant land. Surveillance put in place ceased this summer while personal effects were there. For more than a month, the site was open to the sky (…) and people used it as a dump and filled vans, explains Roland Bellessa, a disaster victim. The town hall mentions an error. Agents have been present 24 hours a day since the end of August, and the town hall promises a visit to the storage locations.
