According to the annual survey on the cost of schooling by the Trade Union Confederation of Families (CSF), families spent 2.64% less on their purchases for the start of the 2022 school year, compared to last year. And this, even though the price of supplies is increasing.

It is a drop in expenditure linked to inflation confirms to franceinfo Johan Jousseaume, head of the education, parenthood, citizenship and childhood center at the CSF. “There are always pleasure purchases”explains Johan Jousseaume, “but on less expensive items: before we were on sports gear or schoolbags, today we are more on kits or notebooks. There is also reuse, within siblings or for a year on the other.”

“We understand” the behavior of the families, comments the person in charge, “with all the inextricable expenses such as gas, water, electricity, food, which are increasing more and more. Families tell us: they are tightening their belts. We therefore understand why at the start of the school year they are strategists and adapt.”

The CSF survey is carried out on the basis of 109 participating families.
