After the revelations about the abuse practiced in the Ehpad of the Orpea group, some families of residents intend to take collective legal action.

Catherine Ouknine denounces the inhuman treatment that her mother allegedly suffered in an Ehpad Orpea in Seine-Saint-Denis. The old lady was resident from 2017 to 2020 for 4,800 euros per month. Her daughter remembers the day when she found her abandoned in her bedroom. “She stayed 24 hours without them realizing that she had returned from the hospital, therefore without treatment, without eating. She was haggard”, recount Catherine Ouknine.

On April 6, 2020, his mother died of Covid-19. Once again, Catherine Ouknine denounces failures. “We recovered the objects and the clothes in garbage bags. I can tell you that until today, it does not pass, it is horrible”, she says, very moved. Like other families, Catherine Ouknine is now determined to lead a fight against the European giant Orpea, which owns 354 retirement homes in France. The lawyer Me Sarah Saldmann launches an action against the group, determined to carry the voice of the families. Orpea announced on Sunday January 30 the dismissal of its managing director and appointed a replacement.
