The former actor of the series Empire, Jussie Smollett, is expected to be sentenced Thursday in a Chicago court for falsely telling police he was the victim of a hate crime. The 39-year-old actor faces up to 36 months in prison.

Recall that Smollett was found guilty last December by an Illinois jury of five counts of disturbing the public order for making false statements about what he said was a hate crime. anti-gay and anti-black.
Before the announcement expected by Thursday evening, his lawyers will try to persuade a judge to overturn the guilty verdict.
The City of Chicago also sued the comedian in a separate civil action.
