Falling behind in school: a catch-up plan soon to be presented

The Minister of Education, Bernard Drainville, assures that an academic catch-up plan for students who suffered the consequences of the strike is currently finalized and will be presented on January 9.

“The meetings took place one after the other throughout the holiday season, in the last days and again today,” assured the minister.

“They took place with ministry teams, representatives of school service centers, school principals, parent committees, unions. We are currently finalizing the plan. I will present it on January 9,” he added.

Different scenarios are on the table. We are thinking in particular of the cancellation of days off, such as spring break, or even an extension of the school year.

Thousands of students across the province have not set foot in a classroom since November 23, so some stakeholders in the school community are inviting parents to be vigilant when school returns. next week.

“It will be important for parents to be perhaps a little more attentive than usual, then to really follow the progress, where there could be difficulties, then to also talk with teachers,” explains for example Sylvain Martel, spokesperson for the Regroupement des committees de parents nationaux du Québec.

Students are scheduled to return to class on January 9.
