(Philadelphia) Kirk Cousins led a flawless, final-minute offensive drive that ended with a touchdown pass to Drake London to lift the Atlanta Falcons to a 22-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night.
Saquon Barkley fumbled a short pass that stopped the clock with 1:46 left and forced the Eagles to settle for a field goal instead of a game-clinching first down.
That was all it took for Cousins, especially against an Eagles defense that applied no pressure against the pass.
The 36-year-old veteran, playing his second game since tearing his Achilles tendon on October 29 with the Minnesota Vikings, got up after an inconsistent performance.
He found Darnell Mooney for 21 and 26 yards on consecutive plays on the final drive before connecting with London on a short pass to his right to tie the game.
Younghoe Koo gave the Falcons (1-1) the extra point with a 48-yard conversion after London was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Jalen Hurts had his final pass intercepted by Jessie Bates III to seal the Falcons’ victory.
The Eagles (1-1) had earlier taken the lead on Hurts’ 1-yard touchdown run with 6:47 left.
Barkley finished the game with 95 yards on 22 carries in his Philadelphia debut.
Cousins finished the game with 20 of 29 completions for 241 yards and two touchdowns. He connected with Mooney on a 41-yard run for the Falcons’ first touchdown.
Hurts completed 23 of 30 passes for 183 yards, including a touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith. Smith led the Eagles with seven receptions and 76 yards.
