Faced with the failures of the payroll systemthe oppositions are calling for a public inquiry into the multiplication of fiascos in the “digital transition” led by Minister Éric Caire.
“I am sincerely concerned about the minister’s ability to carry out a digital transition, which is essential for our public institutions, launched the solidarity deputy Haroun Bouazzi. It is time to start a public inquiry to shed light on these fiascos and avoid repeating them for what follows.
Our Bureau of Investigation highlighted on Monday the extent of failures in the public service payroll system. Since January 2022, the Ministry of Cybersecurity and Digital (MCN) has been responsible for the remuneration of some 80,000 Quebec government employees, in particular through the SAGIR project.
However, this costly IT project caused major problems, such as unpaid hours, ignored salary increases, incomprehensible statements and overpayments.
“When I asked the Minister about his inaction to prevent the SAAQ fiasco, he preferred to present the government’s payroll system as an example of success due to his intervention. If a payroll system that doesn’t pay is successful, what will failure look like?” quipped Haroun Bouazzi.
On the CMN side, we were assured that measures have been put in place to correct the situation, including the hiring of employees.
Nevertheless, these problems are the straw that broke the camel’s back, according to the conservatives, who demand neither more nor less than the resignation of Minister Cairo.
“After three takes, you are removed,” he reacted on the phone. “He had put his seat on the line for the third link, he is responsible for the setbacks of the SAAQ, and now he is unable to meet the basic needs of civil servants. He must go.”
