faced with violence, a mayor renounces his mandate

Fearing reprisals, he does not wish to show his face. This former mayor claims to have lived through hell because of certain inhabitants of his hamlet. According to him, the least of his decisions were followed by an intimidation maneuver. We visited the land behind his home at night, we got in his way when he was traveling in the village with his children…

These pressures would, according to him, have started after his decision to prohibit motocross and quads from a path located at the exit of the village. For months, he would have been threatened by drivers of this type of machine. It was the day three men tried to beat him up that he decided to quit, he explains.

“Coming out of that altercation, I’m clearly upset. I’m sitting on the steps of my town hall, almost with tears in my eyes, wondering what is happening to me.”

When, a few hours later, his wife texted him that one of the motorbikes was behind their house, he realized he couldn’t “to put [s]your family in danger like this“.”I made the biggest mistake of my life by getting involved in the commune“, considers today the former mayor, who does not even vote anymore.

This failure, “the biggest of [s]for life“, had another consequence, more unexpected. He who gave his blood regularly no longer does so either: “I find that in the end, helping people only got me in trouble“, he confides, annoyed, to “Special Envoy”.
