10 million individual houses would be cracked due to the drought in France. A bill, brought by the ecologist deputy Sandrine Rousseau, is presented on April 6 to the Assembly to help their owners, who are often helpless.

On all the walls of Jean’s house are cracks. In question, the repeated droughts which cause the soil to contract, and thus move the foundations. This is also the case of a resident living in Poitiers (Vienne). “A few months ago, the closet door to our son’s bedroom wouldn’t open. The whole house is actually moving”reports the mother of the family. More than 10 million individual houses would be affected by this phenomenon.

Growing droughts

Faced with the disarray of the victims and the heaviness of the administrative files, the deputy Sandrine Rousseau proposes, Thursday, April 6, a law aimed at better compensating and better supporting the victims. “(…) Faced with droughts that will become more and more important and more and more recurrent (…), we leave people completely alone”she laments. The law has a good chance of being passed thanks to the votes of the Republicans.
