Faced with the rise in the price of raw materials, the agri-food sector is looking for substitute products

In a company in Longueil-Sainte-Marie (Oise) who manufactures crisps, the huge cans of sunflower oil are essential, and now ultra precious. With the war in Ukraine, the world’s leading producer of this oil, this raw material could run out in a few months. Faced with this uncertain future, the company plans to find substitute products, and therefore to modify its recipe.

In Colombelles (Calvados)there are other raw materials that cause concern in a biscuit factory. Over the past six months, the prices of eggs, flour and sugar have increased by 15%. That of butter has increased by 20%. The only concession in the biscuit factory to save money: vanilla no longer comes from Tahiti, but from Madagascar. Every detail is tracked down to reduce the bill, right down to the packaging. Thanks to his efforts, and a few euro cents increase on his products, the biscuit factory of 26 employees is for the moment in balance.
