“I tell the party leaders [de gauche]stop your bullshit”, launches Friday December 22 on France Inter François Ruffin, LFI deputy for the Somme. He calls on the representatives of the left to “bury the battle axes, smoke the peace pipe and stop insulting and mistreating each other”.

François Ruffin does not name these party leaders, but challenges them in the face of the rise of the National Rally in the polls, particularly for the European elections next June. “If we take seriously the danger posed by Marine Le Pen and the National Rally, if we want to stop this slope, the party leaders must stop the bullshit”, he exclaims. François Ruffin invites them to “stop displaying their resentments on Twitter”.

The Somme MP is sorry to see through the opinion polls “Marine Le Pen advance and move towards the Élysée”. He also fears that the left “get used to it” with “a form of abandonment, weakness and cowardice”.

However, far from seeing it as a form of “fatality”François Ruffin calls on voters: “No weakness, no cowardice, no abandonment, we must wake up now!”, he tells them. The rebellious MP recalls, for example, that “if the crisis of 1929 led to Nazism in France, it also led to the New Deal in the United States and the Popular Front in France”. “History remains what men and women make of it”he insists.

A union of the lefts necessary

Faced with this situation, François Ruffin pleads for “The union” that he judges justly “necessary, but not sufficient”. He considers that in the face of “the union of rights which goes from the liberal right to the extreme right”he “we need a union of the left”. If he admits that this was the objective displayed by Nupes during the previous legislative elections, the LFI deputy is moved to see it “manhandled”. He therefore regrets that there is “four lists [de gauche] for the European elections”seeing a “worry”.

François Ruffin urges the left to present themselves “as a unifying force and not [comme] something where people are constantly quarreling, bickering and shouting at each other.”. The LFI deputy for the Somme considers that if the Nupes “does not attract” it is precisely because of this disunity.

“Beyond the quarrels of the leaders – and it’s not just Jean-Luc [Mélenchon] who participates in it – there are lots of left-wing women and men, elected officials and activists, who only want one thing, which is to move the country forward together.”

The deputy for the Somme also invites the left to “change your tone” and attitude. He is convinced that it is necessary to show his “will to win” and its ability to bring together a majority. For François Ruffin, we must not “to say to ourselves that we are in a racist, moldy and reactive country and that we should just hold strongholds” facing the extreme right. “We have a possible majority in the country, on themes that are ours [comme] indexation to inflation, taxing super profits, the citizens’ initiative referendum, now we must move from a spirit of defeat almost to a desire for conquest”he adds.
