Fabien Roussel wants to “build a gathering of the left” without the leaders of LFI

The leadership of the Communist Party called on Sunday October 15 for the constitution of a “new type of union”, for “a new stage for the left”. The national secretary of the PCF, Fabien Roussel, confirms to franceinfo that he does not see how to continue working with La France insoumise and Jean-Luc Mélenchon.

“There is a need for a left that is up to the task. But today, it is not”said Sunday on franceinfo Fabien Roussel, the national secretary of the PCF, while the party called for “a new stage for the left with a new type of union”. Fabien Roussel is not seen “continue to work” with LFI after “insults” of which he was the object and as long as the Rebels have not “not clarified” their position on Hamas. The boss of the PCF says he only has one “objective: succeed in making the left win”.

franceinfo: Why is the PCF calling for “opening a new stage for the left with a new type of union” of the left and environmentalists?

Fabien Roussel: There is a need for a left up to the task. However, today, it is not. The Nupes leads us to a dead end. There is a need to build a gathering of the left, a union of the left commensurate with what is happening in the world. We will also address citizens, everyone, to say that it is urgent today to be brought together on clear bases.

Does this mean that we need another union without LFI?

We clearly differentiate between the comments made by a few leaders of La France insoumise – those who called me a Nazi and those who do not know how to qualify Hamas as a terrorist organization – and the vast majority of their activists, their elected officials. , who have no trouble describing what happened in Israel. We cannot play with these words. We can’t throw insults like this at each other. Until they clarify, I don’t see how we can continue to work together.

Are you asking your communist colleagues in the National Assembly to leave the intergroup?

The choice of work of the intergroup and the different groups is theirs. For my part, as an MP, it is clear. I cannot sit at the same table as those who called me a Nazi.

“In the same way that feminist associations and organizations do not wish to work with Adrien Quatennens, I cannot work on the question of peace in the Middle East with deputies who refuse to qualify Hamas as terrorist.”

What do your socialist and environmental partners think? Do you think they would be willing to follow you?

What I know is that there is a very strong desire to succeed in building a gathering in which we feel respected, where there is no hegemony of one or the other, where there are no insults or threats. And I don’t despair. I even have hope that we will succeed in building it. There is nothing that is decided on its own, by one rather than the other. We have to build together.

This is what we are going to start doing to verbalize this gathering, give it a name and be able to address all our fellow citizens. The objective is to succeed in making the left win. And it is this ambition that we have for France.
