The national financial prosecutor’s office has opened a preliminary investigation for embezzlement of public funds against the PCF candidate, Fabien Roussel. The politician said he had no more information on what he was accused of. This court decision follows an investigation published in Mediapart. The pure player/news site questioned the reality of Fabien Roussel’s parliamentary work as parliamentary assistant between 2009 and 2014.

For her part, Valérie Pécresse received the support of Claude Chirac, the daughter of Jacques Chirac. The latter supported candidate LR, on the grounds that she is faithful to the legacy of the former President of the Republic.
