Fabien Roussel was reappointed as head of the French Communist Party with 80.40% of the vote on Monday, April 10, during the PCF congress taking place in Marseille. The outgoing national secretary, 53, has led the party since November 2018 and there was little doubt about his re-election after his orientation text had already won 82% of the vote in January.

Unfortunate candidate for the presidency of 2022 with 2.3% of the votes, Fabien Roussel was acclaimed at the 39th congress of the PCF at the Palais du Pharo for his speaking truth and his pugnacity in asserting his positions against La France insoumise by Jean-Luc Mélenchon within the Nupes. Emphasizing “honor” that was done to him, Fabien Roussel said in the preamble to his speech on Monday “aspire to be trustworthy” brought by activists.

At the opening of the congress on Friday, the deputy from the North had raised his voice against La France insoumise, assuming his statements on a Nupes “outdated” and to widen towards the center left. “Mind your own business”, he had launched to LFI, which had called on the Communists to “clarify” their position after the declarations of their leader.
