The floods have been causing enormous damage in the Emilia-Romagna region for almost a week. Rescuers are still working to help residents.
In Emilia-Romagna (Italy), floods have been wreaking havoc for several days. More than 5,000 farms found themselves under water and 14 deaths are to be deplored. Italian rescuers fly over the plains of the region in search of people still to be rescued. They are often brought to cross the roads, which have become canals, to help local residents who are not always inclined to leave their homes.
Youth mobilization
In Cesena, some young volunteers, “mud angels”, nickname given by the Italians, try to make the villagers smile againIs. “People need help and we are here,” says anot voluntary. “We are young, we are strong, and when you see their upset faces, you can only be motivated”. In three days, 15,000 people had to be evacuated. The waters begin to recede, giving way to thick mud.
