Discovering the Adamantine Forge: Why This Quest is Essential in BG3
The Adamantine Forge in Baldur’s Gate III serves as a unique crafting location where players can create premium adamantine weapons and armor. The gear produced from this impressive foundry will significantly enhance your gameplay experience, providing invaluable bonuses for your ongoing adventure.
For instance, we crafted an adamantine scale armor that offers the following enhancements:
- Magic armor: Reduces all incoming damage by 1.
- Adamantine backlash: Causes attackers to stagger for 2 turns upon landing a melee hit.
- Protective effect: Prevents attackers from delivering critical hits to the wearer.
However, acquiring such powerful equipment requires dedication and effort, as the journey is filled with challenges. Hence, we provide a detailed guide on how to reach this coveted forge.
How to Locate the Adamantine Forge in BG3
The Adamantine Forge can be found in Malforge, a territory inhabited by the Deep Gnomes and Nere, a devotee of the Absolute. To access Malforge, you must first navigate through the ruined Village situated in the Dark Depths.
Accessing the Dark Depths
Your adventure to the Dark Depths begins at the Goblin Camp. Here’s how to proceed:
From the main hall of the destroyed sanctuary, where the goblin priestess resides, take the stairs on the left side, then select the first door directly in front of you. The goblins nearby won’t appreciate your attempts to pick the lock, so separate one party member and crouch to avoid detection while you unlock the door.
Once you’re inside, head towards the second door adjacent to the ladder. You’ve navigated the easier section, but now you’re entering the desecrated Temple, where challenges await.
This area is guarded by Polma, the priestess’s protector, who is a formidable foe. To pass through without confrontation, you must convince or intimidate her with a roll between 20-22. This task is nearly impossible unless luck is on your side. Instead of engaging, use stealth to navigate around Polma’s line of sight and proceed into the corridor on the left. Utilizing turn-based mode can be beneficial if your teammates risk being caught.
Before you can reach the Depths, a puzzle awaits you. The solution is straightforward: align the stone disks such that there are four black dots at the bottom and four white dots at the top. Once solved, the path to the Dark Depths will be open!
Getting to Malforge
To arrive at Malforge, you’ll need a boat. This can be found at the decrepit Village located beneath the Dark Depths – Beach. To locate it, head west from the exit of the desecrated Temple. The village has a distinctive purple hue, making it hard to miss.
Finding the Adamantine Forge
Once in Malforge, ascend the stairs from the shore and travel south until you reach a large square with a lava area. The forge lies behind this vast lava expanse. To reach it, utilize Lae’zel’s Jump, a Githyanki psionic ability, from the lava square to access ruins that are otherwise unreachable. Continue upwards until you find a terrace filled with weapon racks, then descend the right-hand stairs. Use the teleportation point to transport your entire group, and a large staircase right in front of you will lead you directly to the forge.
Activating the Adamantine Forge in BG3
To power up the forge, place a fitting mold into the mold compartment and fill the mithral crucible. Once these components are in position, pull the lever to transport yourself to the core of the forge. To heat the metal, you will need lava; simply activate the accessible valve on the southern platform to summon the fuel and Grym, the Guardian of the Forge.
Where to Find a Mold?
Within the abandoned refuge of the deserted forge, just before the stairs leading to the Adamantine Forge, you’ll discover several molds, including one specifically for crafting scale armor.
Where to Locate Mithral?
While exploring the ancient temple, you can come across a mithral vein. To extract it, you’ll require a sharp tool. In our case, a lightning spell effectively shattered the vein.
Confronting the Boss: Grym, the Guardian
Understanding Your Opponent
- Level: 8
- Hit Points: 300
- Resistance: Grym is resistant to all forms of attack
- Weakness: Grym becomes vulnerable when overheated
Regardless of whether you are at level 4 or 5, Grym is designed to be a challenging boss. Direct attacks may not weaken him significantly; instead, leverage the environment and mechanisms around you. Utilizing lava will be key in making him susceptible to your strikes, and a hammer will serve as your most effective weapon. However, you must position it accurately to maximize its impact.
Combat Strategy
- Completely separate your party members, placing one ally on the valve platform (east), another on the lever (south), one in the center near the crucible, and the last on…
