Francine Jordi: A True Christmas Enthusiast

Joël Gilgen: You describe yourself as a devoted fan of Christmas?

Francine Jordi: Absolutely! The enchantment of Christmas, with its twinkling lights and warm candle glow, captivates me. I also appreciate the more tranquil atmosphere that this season brings. People tend to become more empathetic and take the time to connect with their loved ones. It’s disheartening that many revert to their old ways after December 26th. Why can’t we maintain this spirit of kindness throughout the year? Sadly, the pandemic has made some individuals even more self-centered.

The Importance of Christmas Traditions

What’s your perspective on Christmas customs and rituals?

They hold significant value, especially for children and teenagers. These traditions provide a sense of stability and comfort during uncertain times, like those we are experiencing now. For instance, I’ve decorated my garden with four reindeer and a sleigh since early November. My mother gifts me an Advent calendar filled with delightful surprises like chewing gum and lip balm. Our Christmas tree is typically a charming, crooked little fir that stood out from the rest. Moreover, we love engaging in Secret Santa, sipping mulled wine, indulging in fondue, and baking cookies together.

You recently collaborated with your mother to publish a cookbook. Is there a festive recipe included?

During Christmas, we always enjoy rolled ham accompanied by potato salad. For appetizers, my dad whips up delicious crostinis topped with sun-dried tomatoes. These are quick to prepare, allowing us to spend less time in the kitchen and more time enjoying the holiday spirit.

Your new Christmas album, “This Little Piece of Christmas,” has just been released. Was it created simply because it’s a seasonal requirement?

No, it must come from genuine emotions; otherwise, it won’t resonate. I released a Christmas album 25 years ago, and since that CD is now out of circulation, an update was long overdue. The wonderful aspect of a Christmas album is that it’s often enjoyed in its entirety and can be cherished for years to come. I chose to create this album because it marks my final physical album release.

To clarify, this is your last physical album?

Precisely. While I will continue creating music, I recognize that listening habits have evolved. Many people no longer use CD players, so I will focus on releasing music that can be streamed or downloaded instead.

Is there a standout track on your Christmas album?

It’s hard to choose just one. Whether it’s timeless classics like “Adeste Fideles” and “Silent Night” or new pieces like “Wonder,” each song resonates with me deeply. “Wonder” holds a special significance, especially for those facing challenges or crises. Sometimes, a little miracle is all we need—a kind word, a listening ear, or a quote that inspires strength. We just have to remain open to these moments.

Your words reflect personal insights!

Indeed, many assume I have no troubles because I often appear cheerful and laugh a lot. However, I’ve faced my share of setbacks. Nonetheless, I strive to maintain a positive outlook. Life is about gathering experiences, and a rainbow cannot exist without both sun and rain.
