Anti-Semitism in American universities: explanations from the president of the University of Pennsylvania – (Franceinfo)

Thursday, December 7, Liz Maggil, the president of the prestigious University of Pennsylvania (United States), published a video in which she explains herself after her controversial statements before the House of Representatives on anti-Semitic remarks on her campus.

After 48 hours, under fire from critics, Liz Maggil, the president of the prestigious University of Pennsylvania (United States), explains herself, Thursday December 7. “During my hearing before the House of Representatives, I was asked whether calling for the genocide of Jews on our campus would be against our rules. At the time, I was focused on the fact that in the American Constitution, we cannot be punished just for words”she explains.

A renewed tension in universities

She, as well as the presidents of Harvard and MIT, are criticized for not having firmly and unambiguously condemned the making of anti-Semitic remarks within their campuses, during their hearing before the House of Representatives. The White House is concerned about the resurgence of tensions within universities, particularly since the Hamas attack on October 7.
