Upcoming hockey season

I own a 2022 Atlas Highline whose lease ends in a year and a half. I travel 22,000 km per year and I spend around a hundred dollars per week on gasoline. I would like to find the same kind of space in a hybrid or even electric version. We need space for hockey bags and, if possible, “captain” seats in the back. EV9? Ford Lightning? Any other suggestions?

Pascal R.

The EV9 theoretically represents a very good choice. If you liked the after-sales service at your Volkswagen dealership, you could also evaluate the ID.Buzz (release planned for late fall) or, depending on your budget, the Volvo EX90. The only problem with all these models is that it is currently impossible for us to comment on their reliability. As for hybrids, we suggest you take a look at the Toyota Grand Highlander.

Comfortable SUV sought after

Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid

I’m looking for an urban SUV. I am 6 feet tall and need comfort when traveling to Florida. I’m hesitating between the Mazda CX30, the Toyota Corolla Cross and the Kia Seltos.

Rick A.

The Corolla Cross is undoubtedly the most consistent of the three (comfort, space) and also the most economical at the pump, especially if you opt for the hybrid version. On the other hand, this model is noisy. The Seltos is more so. And its suspensions are firm. The CX-30 is the most rewarding of the three (finish and materials) and the one that provides the most pleasure to drive. We suggest you include the Subaru Crosstrek in your selection. This one is more comfortable than your three choices for long trips.

Mileage or battery?

Lithium-ion battery

I have a Ford F-150 truck as my first car, but I would like to get a second (used) car, with electric propulsion. What should I consider, mileage or battery condition? How do I know if the battery life is still good?

Lola T.

A proper inspection by an authorized dealer or specialist will allow you to establish the remaining capacity of the battery in relation to the initial capacity (state-of-charge). The result of this analysis takes precedence over the mileage. Furthermore, be aware that certain used vehicles are eligible for a subsidy. Bye bye petrol

Charging an electric vehicle

I currently own a 2011 Lexus IS 250 AWD with almost 200,000 km on the clock. I recently paid for a new universal joint and exhaust pipe to make it last me another year. I am considering changing vehicles next spring. I’m thinking electric or hybrid. I travel less than 12,000 km per year and I live less than 15 km from my work. I recently saw 2021-2022 Lexus (gas) for around $30,000. I’m looking for a four-wheel drive vehicle (I live in Tremblant), at least similar to mine in terms of luxury and comfort. I wonder if I should pay more for a new electric or hybrid vehicle or rather, given my low mileage, “settle” for a gasoline vehicle in this range.

Nicholas D.

You are a very good candidate for an electric vehicle. The question is: do you have access to a terminal or can you install one at your residence? If so, why not take the plunge? You will then obtain a new electric vehicle. This will be, in certain respects, less luxurious, we agree, but sometimes more comfortable (flexibility of the suspensions, noise level).
