Take time

The lease on my 2020 Acura RDX expires in June 2024. The residual value is $23,890 plus fees and taxes. My goal is to buy it and resell it when I find the electric vehicle of my choice. My dealer is instead offering to return it and get a new lease until electric vehicles are more reliable. I’m interested in the Genesis GV70 or the Acura ZDX.

More reliable ? Or is it more mature? The idea of purchasing your current vehicle seems like a good decision. You could, depending on its mileage and condition, get a few thousand dollars more if you chose to sell it yourself. This will give you time to choose the electric vehicle that suits your tastes, your expectations and your budget. Both of your options are interesting, but the reliability record for these vehicles is blank. Can you wait a bit? If not, then take a look at the Genesis GV60, the Tesla Model Y or even the Lexus RZ.

Mercedes-Benz EQE 500

I decided to change my 2016 Mercedes GL 350 (135,000 km) to go electric. I ordered a Mercedes EQE 500 which I should receive in May. Do you think I should buy or lease this vehicle since it’s new?

Guy L.

Congratulations on your purchase. If you still have a choice, we strongly suggest renting it. This is a new model and the evolution of technologies is rather mind-blowing.

I despair, will there be no turning back? I dream of getting a small or medium-sized car like we still found in Quebec not so long ago. The current market (adoration for compact SUVs or not) really does not correspond to the prevailing ecological and environmental discourse. Encourage me, please.

Ginette G.

There is no need to despair. The transition from thermal to electric, but also the repeated (and very insistent) demands of consumers for financially more economical vehicles, will contribute to the return of small cars. In the very near future, Volvo (EX30), Mini (Cooper) and Fiat (500e), to name just these three, will offer more compact vehicles. Even more than a gasoline car, an electric vehicle must have a sleeker, more aerodynamic silhouette. It’s about his autonomy. This constraint, like the need to chase weight, goes against the grain of current SUVs. From then on, cars (large and small) could find a new lease of life.

Still young

BMW X4 2019

I own a 2018 BMW X4M 40i which has 55,000 km on the clock. Maintenance has always been done according to the computer’s instructions. The brakes and tires are in good condition. As it is a performance SUV, maintenance and repair costs are quite high and these are likely to increase in the coming months. Do you think it would be appropriate to consider getting rid of it and that the resale value would be attractive for a possible exchange?

André L.

You hold the purse strings. That said, your apprehension is perfectly justified. These vehicles require ongoing maintenance to obtain the expected performance. If your vehicle gives you satisfaction and considering your low mileage, why not keep it? The
