Expert advice | The automobile in question: a problem to be corrected

Q. On Hyundai Ioniq5 forums, people are complaining about the lack of a rear wiper. Considering our winter conditions, the absence of a rear wiper seems to me a sufficient argument not to buy this model, even if, overall, I find it very attractive. Hyundai seems to want to equip the Ioniq5 with a rear wiper in the near future.

Q. We previously reported this issue in our testbed published last December. The lack of a rear wiper poses a safety and comfort problem not only in winter conditions, but also in heavy rain. The Canadian management of Hyundai is aware of the problem and invites the parent company to review its copy. The question is whether first-time buyers will be able to benefit from installing this aftermarket accessory once it goes into production. To be continued.

TO PLEASE YOURSELF

Q. I want to spoil myself, I’m hesitating between an Audi SQ5 Sportback technik and a Porsche Macan S premium pack. You have surely driven both, I would like to have your opinion to clarify my choice. There isn’t a big price difference between the two.

Porsche Macan

R. There isn’t a big price difference as long as you resist the temptation to check off the (many) personalization options contained in Porsche’s accessories catalog… That said, in a case like in the otherwise, we suggest going with the air suspension and torque-vectoring device ($3290 at Porsche and $3750 at Audi). If driving pleasure (read sporty) is at the top of your criteria, the Porsche is your best choice. On the other hand, if you are looking for a high level of performance, but also want a more polished presentation, a more sophisticated infotainment system and lower maintenance costs, then the SQ5 Sportback should be in your entry. garage.

AGREE WITH YOUR HUSBAND

Q. I’ve had two Suzuki SX4s in 15 years. A 2007, whose engine block cracked in 2012 after 160,000 km; a 2012 (upgraded 6-speed version), which now has 95,000 km. My spouse strongly encourages me to change it while it is apparently still worth between $5,000 and $10,000. But I love him ! For the 4×4 – essential –, for its pleasant format to drive, all-purpose, malleable, roomy, and its reasonable consumption. Do I run the risk of keeping it and that it will last for at least two more years? Otherwise, the only model that appeals to me at the moment is the Subaru Crosstek. Your advice ?

R. A real small tractor, this SX4, but rather greedy in gasoline. The brand no longer sells cars on our territory and if you get this amount, then this is the right time to say goodbye. The Crosstrek will give you as much pleasure (driving, manoeuvrability, habitability) with the added bonus of better economy at the pump.

THE PLAN

Q. Following the receipt of the EQS model from Mercedes, is it reasonable to believe that the EQB model should follow in 2022?

R. Indeed, the first deliveries of the EQS have begun, and by the end of the summer, the EQB will make its debut on Canadian soil. That’s the plan.
