At the start of the construction holidays, Quebec will have to face hot and humid weather from the United States, according to Environment Canada forecasts.
In Montreal, this Monday, the temperature should reach 29 ° C. “We’re going to be a little above normal, but the Humidex shouldn’t go beyond 34 to 35,” said Dominic Martel, meteorologist at Environment Canada.
Showers and thunderstorms are also expected in the west of the province for Monday. This low pressure system could move towards Montreal at the end of the day and in the evening.
Tuesday and Wednesday will see the heat persist with temperatures of 28°C and 30°C respectively. Thursday will be the hottest day of the week, with humidex values expected between 35 and 40 in the far south of the province, according to the meteorologist. Rain and thunderstorms are forecast for Friday.
These climatic conditions are due to the hot and humid air coming from the United States, where a record heat wave has been raging for several days, indicates Mr. Martel. Excessive heat warnings were issued across the country over the weekend.
Possible deterioration of air quality
Smoke from wildfires in western Canada is expected to reach Quebec on Wednesday, which could lead to a slight deterioration in air quality. The meteorologist specifies that this smoke would first arrive in Témiscamingue and could then spread to the south of the province.
Currently, 86 forest fires are still active in the province, according to SOPFEU. In total, 637 fires have been recorded in Quebec since the beginning of the year, for a total of 4,763,861 hectares burned.
In the west of the country, 449 wildfires are raging in British Columbia, according to the BC Wildfire Service. In Alberta, 124 wildfires are active, the government website says.
