For nearly fifteen years, Aurélie Saada and Sylvie Hoareau will play the figure of the eternal feminine. Their name is a tribute to Brigitte Bardot, Brigitte Lahaie and Brigitte Fontaine. Folk, psychedelic, hip-hop, oriental, they do not forbid any genre.

franceinfo: “Exotic and wonderful”, that’s how you describe your child’s Christmases. Why ?
Aurélie Saada: Because I come from a family originally from Tunisia, my Tunisian Jewish parents emigrated to France. For us Christmas was exotic, it was awesome! My grandmother made the crib, there was the fir tree but also the Menorah (the seven-branched candlestick). It was really a moment of celebration, it was something magical.
And then there was the family but also the friends, all those who did not have family precisely or who did not want to spend the holidays with them. It was very nice.
Is the tradition that there was no tradition?
Exactly, it was all new to us. I think my parents were so happy to be in France and embrace this culture that it made us laugh.
In your family, cooking is a declaration of love. And there were good little delicacies during this festive period. When you were little, you liked to stay in the kitchen to help prepare meals. What are the scents that come back to you?
When I think of my childhood, I think of cumin, because it was used almost everywhere. Everything is good when there is cumin! And then in the sweet dishes, there was orange blossom. So I think the chestnut turkey must have had cumin somewhere! And the Yule log, a little orange blossom.
Decorating the tree was also a celebration. Did you do it with your lifelong accomplice, your sister?
Oh yes ! My parents really let me and my sister free, we had a lot of fun in the apartment. The objects were there for us to live with, they were not hidden in windows, locked away from children.
We had the right to play with everything, while respecting. As if they empowered us very early on. So yes, I believe that very quickly we took care of the decoration of the tree. It was pretty weird, we had to really mix the colors but that was part of the game.
