With the exciting launch of *Farming Simulator 25*, we had the opportunity to chat with Martin Rabl, the marketing manager at Giants Software. This interview sheds light on this franchise, which often flies under the radar for many gamers.
Insights from the Self-Publishing Journey
Hello! Could you start by introducing yourself? What is your role at Giants Software?
I’m Martin Rabl, and I’ve been the marketing manager at Giants Software since 2015. I oversee a talented team that handles all marketing activities, including video production, graphic design, communication, our website, and social media engagement.
After your initial self-published game, *Farming Simulator 22*, what insights have you gained from that experience? Are there any changes in the strategy for the launch of *Farming Simulator 25*?
Transitioning to self-publishing was a well-thought-out process for us. We began with re-releases of older titles to familiarize ourselves with the necessary procedures, allowing us to learn without the pressure of tight deadlines. Ultimately, *Farming Simulator 22* had the most successful launch in our history, and we feel well-prepared for *Farming Simulator 25*. Our publishing team has spent the last three years assessing our partners and suppliers, and we are thrilled to present a game featuring different covers that highlight four tractors based on regional characteristics.
Given that *Farming Simulator* exists in a niche market with no direct competitors, how do you view its position in the gaming industry? Do you consider games like *Stardew Valley* to be competitors?
*Farming Simulator* stands out by combining realism with engaging gameplay, making it the go-to choice for realistic agricultural simulations. With an extensive lineup of over 400 machines from top brands and intricate production chains, our game offers a vastly different experience compared to more casual farming titles like *Stardew Valley*, which emphasize a stylized, simplified approach. The depth of our gameplay mechanics and the variety of agricultural machinery give us a strong edge, making it challenging for any potential competitors to catch up quickly. With its numerous new features, *Farming Simulator 25* is set to redefine the standards for simulation games once again.
Fostering Community and Enhancing Gameplay
Considering the close relationship between *Farming Simulator* and its modding community, have you adjusted your approach regarding mod compatibility and accessibility for *Farming Simulator 25*?
Our modding community is vital to the ongoing success and evolution of *Farming Simulator*. For *Farming Simulator 25*, we have developed an updated version of the GIANTS Editor, empowering modders to bring their creative ideas to life. We are continuously refining these tools and eagerly anticipate engaging with our community at the upcoming FarmCon.
As the mechanics of the *Farming Simulator* series become more intricate, are you planning to implement more comprehensive tutorials for *Farming Simulator 25*?
Absolutely! *Farming Simulator 25* will feature enhanced tutorial options suitable for players of all skill levels. We have incorporated interactive assistance through improved user interfaces and NPC-guided tutorials. Furthermore, we are expanding our Farming Simulator Academy on our website, *www.farming-simulator.com*, to include in-depth guides.
With two releases spaced three years apart (22 and 25), do you intend to maintain this rhythm? Should we expect a *Farming Simulator 28* in 2027?
Our current timeline aligns well with our goal of delivering substantial updates with each major release. However, as for the distant future, I can’t predict that just yet!
The community is known for its loyalty, but they also hold high expectations and are critical of new releases. Can you provide insight into your resources and limitations compared to larger AAA studios?
GIANTS Software operates as a small, passionate team compared to bigger studios. With offices in Switzerland, the USA, Germany, and the Czech Republic, we closely collaborate with both the agricultural industry and our player community. While our resources may be limited, our independence and dedication enable us to deliver a high-quality farming experience.
What do you consider the standout new features of *Farming Simulator 25*?
*Farming Simulator 25* enhances immersion with features like soil deformation, GPS guidance, dynamic weather events, and new animal types. For instance, rice farming requires fields bordered to retain water. Additionally, the GIANTS Engine 10 elevates the visuals and physics of the game.
Will the impact of seasons be more pronounced in *Farming Simulator 25*?
Yes, climate will play a bigger role in *Farming Simulator 25*, introducing weather events such as tornadoes and hail, which can affect crops and structures. Players will have the option to toggle these features according to their preferences.
How do you integrate real agricultural advancements into *Farming Simulator*?
We actively monitor the latest agricultural innovations, collaborate with industry partners, and attend trade shows to stay current. Whenever a new technology aligns with our game’s universe, we work diligently to incorporate it.
What is your favorite map in *Farming Simulator 25*?
I would have to say Riverbend Springs. The water features are beautifully executed, and it brings back fond memories of my travels across the United States.
On a personal note, what is your playstyle in *Farming Simulator 25*?
It changes with each release as I enjoy experimenting with new features. Currently, I’m focusing on the machinery and tools needed for rice cultivation. However, I often revert to my childhood experiences in Southern Germany, working with cereals, grass, corn, alongside cows and pigs on my farm.
We extend our gratitude to Martin Rabl for sharing his insights with us.
*Farming Simulator 25* is now available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series, and keep an eye out for our upcoming review!
