(Ottawa) Excluded from the Council of Ministers by Justin Trudeau, Marc Garneau refused the offer to become ambassador to Paris.
When it was noted that the member for Notre-Dame-Westmount was conspicuous by his absence at the unveiling of the new cabinet a month ago, it was rumored that he would become ambassador in Paris.
Without commenting on this specific information, Mr. Garneau then relied on Twitter to express his joy in continuing to represent his Montreal voters.
On Wednesday morning, upon his arrival at the Liberal caucus meeting, the backbench MP Garneau confirmed that the offer had been made to him.
However, he did not say for what specific reasons he refused it. He did not want it for “all kinds of reasons,” he let down before rushing into the Liberal caucus meeting room.
Was he offended by the Prime Minister’s decision? “I want to work for my constituents. And then, it gives me a lot of personal satisfaction; that’s why I’m staying, ”he replied, before stepping away from the journalists.
Since the first Liberal government of Justin Trudeau came to power in 2015, Marc Garneau has served as Minister of Transport and then Minister of Foreign Affairs. He only held the latter post for less than 10 months.
