The sponsorship program, the product of the collaboration between the two foundations, provides annual support for student-athletes practicing one of the sports that Georges St-Pierre included in his preparation at the time, namely boxing, fencing, gymnastics arts, judo, karate, wrestling and taekwondo.

Thus, gymnast Maddison Hajjar, judoka Félix Mercier-Ross, karateka Maroua Mokdad and fencer Agata Voitenko all received a $2,000 academic excellence bursary, having maintained an average of 80% or more in their studies.

As for taekwondo player Artur Bespalyi, boxer Ludovik Jodoin and wrestler Nathan Rainville, they were awarded a scholarship to support academic success, also of $2,000.

St-Pierre was also able to discuss with the recipients during the virtual ceremony.

According to the former world champion in mixed martial arts, the program takes on its full meaning this year “when the scholarship holders have been particularly affected by the health restrictions linked to the pandemic”, he mentioned in a statement.

“More than ever, it is essential that young people pursue their studies in order to prepare them well for their eventual transition from sport to work,” he added. It is truly gratifying to support them in these difficult times, to discover their stories, their journeys, and to simply be there for them. »
