“The miracle drug I hoped would end my 11:30 p.m. raids in the fridge for cheddar and chorizo didn’t work for me. But I still believe it could change the lives of millions of people.” This is how Boris Johnson’s first editorial published on Saturday June 16 is titled in the DailyMail. The ex-Prime Minister was indeed hired as an editorialist by the conservative tabloid.

But this return to journalism is already controversial. Because the DailyMaila specialist in rowdy headlines against environmentalists, the administration or Prince Harry, ardently supported the ex-conservative leader throughout “Partygate”, the holiday scandal in Downing Street during the anti-Covid confinements, which has led to his departure from power last summer.

“I will say exactly what I think”

A week after the announcement of his resignation from his mandate as a deputy and the day after a parliamentary report finding him guilty of having lied to Parliament, the newspaper said on Friday that it had recruited a mysterious “new scholarly columnist”, whose comments will be awaited “in Westminster and around the world”. THE DailyMail confirmed the obvious during the day: it is Boris Johnson, who will publish an editorial every Saturday in his columns.

In a video published on the newspaper’s website, the former Prime Minister promises: “I will say exactly what I think…” He specifies planning to talk about politics “as little as possible”. In fact, the first text of the ex-leader, who has already mentioned his problems of being overweight, is devoted to his unsuccessful trial of an appetite suppressant drug when he was in power.
