Ex-minister Bernard Valcourt criminally charged for incident with police

A former federal cabinet minister in various Conservative governments, Bernard Valcourt, has pleaded not guilty to obstructing and resisting police.

The details of what led Mr. Valcourt to have to face justice are unknown, as little information has been provided in the court documents.

However, it is known that he is accused of having obstructed two police officers from the city of Edmundston, in northwestern New Brunswick, on October 4th.

Bernard Valcourt, who turned 71 a few days ago, was a minister in the governments of prime ministers Brian Mulroney, Kim Campbell and Stephen Harper. He was the Member of Parliament for New Brunswick.

During his long political career, he has notably served as Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, Minister of Employment and Immigration and Minister of Labour.
