“Where is the problem ?” After the controversies over her return to Mali, the former hostage Sophie Pétronin explained herself in an interview for BFMTV, broadcast Thursday, November 11. Franco-Switzerland was particularly keen to reassure about its living conditions: “Where I am I am safe, well guarded, well protected, well fed. I eat well, drink well, sleep well. “France is France, with its qualities and its faults, its strengths and its weaknesses. On the other hand, Mali has remained and thank goodness”, adds the septuagenarian. The French executive deplored this return to Mali, denouncing through the voice of his spokesperson Gabriel Attal a “form of irresponsibility” with respect to “his security” but also “the security of our soldiers”.
In it, she also responds to rumors that evoke a conversion to Islam during her detention. “Everyone proclaimed that I had been converted (…) I have never been converted, ok? Since 2002, when my daughter was born, I started to learn Islam”, she says. “Where’s the problem with my conversion? I’ve never been converted in my life. Even during the four years in captivity.”, she adds.
